The light flashes when the engine coolant temperature is extremely high, and illuminates when the engine coolant temperature increases further. Coolant leak: A leak in the coolant system can cause the coolant level to drop rapidly, triggering the warning light. Push the float down with a coat hanger, I bet it's on the bottom already. This could be caused by a leak in the cooling system or simply by normal evaporation over time. Put in under the original float put stem back in and your done. Or do what I did, take needle nose pliers and pull the float out and I used a piece of rubber, make sure it floats. Any ideas? Thermostat? Level indicator? THANK YOU.It's the float. The Manual says the fluid is either low or too high. If coolant is leaking out of your car, the lower coolant levels in your engine will cause it to overheat. When I start my 2004 TDI Jetta GLS and its cold outside, the temp light blinks after the engine has run a few run minutes and remains blinking. The "trunk open" warning was also flashing on at the same time, but the trunk was shut. Two points: I've already replaced two water pumps within the last year. Average repair cost is 1,200 at 82,900 miles. I had to grab an uber to a meeting so I don't know how the level is now that the engine is cooler. The 2002 Buick Century has 3 problems reported for low coolant light on. Had to pull over because the "Warning: Coolant level low" light was flashing, but the level was above the minimum line when I stopped.
